How much furniture fits?

A 20ft container usually takes the contents of a two to three-bedroom house when packed well: beds, sofas, a dining table and chairs, white goods, wardrobes and around 40 to 60 boxes. For trades, it holds a good stock of tools, materials and small plant.

Packing tips

  • Heavy items at the back and on the floor, light boxes on top.
  • Stand sofas and mattresses on their ends along the side walls.
  • Leave a walkway down the middle if you'll need things before you move out.
  • Use pallets under anything that matters, and leave a small gap from the walls.
  • Put a couple of moisture traps inside over winter to cut condensation.
